    Why this journey works

This route is strong for a first family safari because it keeps the shape simple while giving your family two very different wildlife chapters.

Lewa brings conservation depth, rhino country, guided walks, and a calmer conservancy feel, while the Maasai Mara brings classic plains game viewing and a stronger sense of big safari scale.

    Where you stay

For Signature, Lewa Safari Camp and Sand River keep the safari premium, family-fit, and commercially disciplined on clear published rack rates.

For Legacy, Kifaru House Lewa gives a more elevated north-leg feel, while Angama Mara adds a stronger step-up in privacy, rooming, and finish through its family suites and fully inclusive Mara style.

    Signature

    Elewana Lewa Safari Camp

A premium tented camp with access to 65,000 acres of protected wilderness. Lewa is especially strong for rhino, Grevy’s zebra, conservation learning, and a calmer safari rhythm than a busier park route.

    Elewana Sand River Masai Mara

A classic tented Mara stay with a family suite and a more secluded setting inside the reserve. Sand River’s Game Package includes shared drives, guided walks, bush breakfasts, sundowners, and designated airstrip transfers.

    Nairobi: House of Waine

A calm boutique arrival in Nairobi, priced on HB, which supports a proper first evening before safari begins.

     Legacy

    Angama Mara

A stronger Legacy finish with interleading family suites, fully inclusive style, and a higher-end Mara experience. Angama Mara’s family suites are two standard tents connected by a secure interleading passage and can sleep up to two adults and four children.

    Elewana Kifaru House Lewa

A more elevated north-leg stay with an infinity pool, guided walks, bush breakfasts, sundowners, Ngare Ndare access, and optional horse or camel riding. It is the cleaner step-up from Lewa Safari Camp within the Elewana north-leg choice.

    Nairobi: House of Waine

Same calm Nairobi opening, which keeps the journey grounded from the start.

    Day-by-day itinerary

    Day 1

    Arrive in Nairobi

Your family lands in Nairobi, settles into House of Waine, and begins the journey with a hosted dinner and a proper first night before safari starts. House of Waine’s HB rate basis includes dinner, which supports that calm opening.

    Day 2

    Nairobi to Lewa

Fly from Wilson to Lewa and settle into camp. The afternoon works best as a gentle first game drive or quiet camp time, depending on arrival time and the children’s energy. Lewa Safari Camp offers privileged access to the conservancy, while Kifaru House adds a more elevated small-lodge feel.

    Day 3

    Lewa

This is a good day for the first full north-leg rhythm:

    • morning game drive
    • time back in camp or by the pool
    • late afternoon activity such as a guided walk or night drive

On Game Package, Lewa Safari Camp includes scheduled shared game drives, a 2-hour guided walking safari, and night game drives. Kifaru House includes shared game drives, guided walking safari, Ngare Ndare forest visit, sundowners, bush breakfast, and airstrip transfers.

    Day 4

    Lewa

Keep this day flexible around family energy:

    • rhino and Grevy’s zebra viewing
    • conservation-focused guiding
    • optional horse or camel riding where suitable
    • optional Ngare Ndare day outing
    • time back at camp for pool and rest

Lewa Safari Camp and Kifaru House both support family activity beyond drives, including bush walks, horse or camel riding, and time at the pool. Elewana also highlights children’s activities, dedicated kid’s menus, and in-camp bush walks at Lewa.

    Day 5

    Lewa to Maasai Mara

Fly south to the Maasai Mara, settle in, and head out for an afternoon drive. Sand River sits in a more secluded part of the reserve, while Angama Mara adds a more elevated Mara arrival and stronger family-suite logic.

    Day 6

    Maasai Mara

This is the classic Mara rhythm:

    • morning safari
    • midday rest in camp
    • late afternoon drive
    • simple camp time before dinner

At Sand River, Game Package includes shared scheduled drives, guided walking safari, bush breakfasts, sundowners, and airstrip transfers. Elewana’s family safari material also highlights child-friendly options such as swimming pool time, guided camp walks, school visits, and board games.

    Day 7

    Maasai Mara

Use the final full day for a stronger closing chapter:

    • longer morning drive
    • bush breakfast
    • camp rest
    • late afternoon game viewing
    • optional balloon safari if desired

Sand River lies on the migration route, and the camp’s river setting helps shape memorable late breakfasts and strong closing safari moments. Angama Mara’s family layout and elevated viewing position make it a strong Legacy finish.

    Day 8

    Return to Nairobi

Fly back to Nairobi Wilson, transfer to Four Points Nairobi Airport to refresh, then continue to your onward international flight. Four Points offers shuttle service to both Wilson and JKIA, which helps this final day run cleanly.

    When to travel

Best months: June to October, and January to March.

Your own Kenya timing guide positions June to October as the easiest all-round window for first-time families, January to March as a strong calmer-feel window, and July to October as the migration-focus period in the Mara.
