    Why this journey works

This journey works well for families who want to experience more of Kenya in one clear route, without losing comfort or pace along the way.

    • It begins with safari first, while energy and curiosity are high.
    • Laikipia adds a calmer conservancy rhythm, strong wildlife, and experiences beyond standard game drives. Lewa Safari Camp sits within protected conservancy land and supports activities such as game drives, guided walks, bush breakfasts, and time at camp between outings.
    • The Maasai Mara brings the classic safari chapter, with wider plains, strong game viewing, and the fuller sense of Kenya’s big safari landscape. Sand River is positioned in a quieter part of the reserve and offers shared game drives, bush meals, sundowners, and family-friendly camp time.
    • Diani gives the family a softer ending, with time to rest, swim, enjoy the beach, and recover before the journey home. Diani Reef highlights beach, pool, kids’ activities, and marine experiences, which makes the coast feel like a proper final chapter rather than just an add-on.
    • The overall shape is clear. One Nairobi start, two safari regions, then the coast.

    Day-by-day itinerary

    Day 1

    Arrive in Nairobi

Your family lands in Nairobi, settles into House of Waine, and starts the journey with a hosted dinner and a proper first night before safari begins. House of Waine’s HB basis supports that calm opening.

    Day 2

    Nairobi to Laikipia

Fly north to Lewa and settle into camp. The first afternoon works best as a light game drive or quiet camp time, depending on arrival time and the children’s energy. Lewa Safari Camp sits inside protected conservancy land and Kifaru House brings a quieter, more elevated house-style feel.

    Day 3

    Laikipia

This is the first full safari rhythm:

    • morning game drive
    • time back in camp or by the pool
    • late afternoon activity such as a guided walk, bush breakfast, or sundowner

Lewa Safari Camp highlights game drives, guided walks, Ngare Ndare Forest, a swimming pool, bush breakfasts, and horse or camel riding. Kifaru House highlights game drives, guided walks, Ngare Ndare, horse or camel riding, the infinity pool, and bush breakfasts and sundowners.

    Day 4

    Laikipia

Keep this day flexible around family energy:

    • rhino and Grevy’s zebra viewing
    • conservation-led guiding
    • pool time
    • horse or camel riding where suitable
    • quiet lodge time before dinner

Elewana also highlights flexible dining, children’s menus, and children’s activities across its family-friendly stays

    Day 5

    Laikipia to Maasai Mara

Fly south to the Mara, settle in, and head out for an afternoon drive. Sand River gives the classic Mara camp finish, while Angama Mara adds the more elevated Legacy step-up with family-friendly suite logic.

    Day 6

    Maasai Mara

This is the classic Mara rhythm:

    • morning safari
    • midday rest
    • late afternoon drive
    • simple camp time before dinner

Sand River includes shared game drives, bush meals and sundowners, the swimming pool, and a local school visit. Angama’s family safari experiences emphasize private vehicle flexibility and a family photoshoot in its dedicated family offer.

    Day 7

    Maasai Mara

Use the final full safari day for a stronger closing chapter:

    • longer morning drive
    • optional bush breakfast
    • camp rest
    • late afternoon game viewing
    • optional balloon safari for families who want one more special moment

Sand River lies on the migration route, and Angama also offers ballooning and family-oriented Mara experiences.

    Day 8

    Maasai Mara to Diani

Fly back through Nairobi to the coast, then settle into the beach stay. This is the transition from game-viewing rhythm into recovery rhythm. Safarilink’s connection guidance confirms coast links from safari routes through Wilson

    Day 9

    Diani

A full beach and pool day. For Signature, Diani Reef offers beach, pools, spa, kids’ club, and marine activities. For Legacy, Alfajiri includes private-villa living, a butler, nanny support, snorkeling access, and daily massage within its rate structure.

    Day 10

    Diani

    Use this day lightly:

    • beach time
    • snorkeling or a dhow-style outing
    • spa time
    • slow family lunch
    • one simple coast activity if your family wants it

Diani Reef highlights snorkeling, scuba diving, dhow cruises, dolphin-watching, spa, and a children’s club. Alfajiri’s brochure highlights snorkeling by the barrier reef, paddle boarding, kayaking, beach sundowners, and community visits.

    Day 11

    Return to Nairobi

Fly back to Nairobi, refresh near the airport, then continue to your onward international flight. Four Points Nairobi Airport offers shuttle support to JKIA.

    Where you stay

For Signature, Lewa Safari Camp and Sand River keep the safari strong while staying inside a cleaner commercial structure on published rates, and Diani Reef gives a beach finish that is easier on price while still offering beach, pool, spa, kids’ activities, and marine experiences.

For Legacy, Kifaru House Lewa gives a more elevated north-leg stay, Angama Mara gives a stronger Mara finish, and Alfajiri Beach Villa brings the private-villa coast ending that truly feels like a step up.

    Signature

    House of Waine

A calm Nairobi opening that helps the family land well before safari starts. HB makes the first evening simple and clear.

    Elewana Lewa Safari Camp

A premium tented camp in rhino country with access to protected conservancy land, a family suite, game drives, guided walks, Ngare Ndare, pool time, and bush breakfasts.

    Elewana Sand River Masai Mara

A classic Mara tented camp with a family tent, shared game drives in custom 4x4s, bush meals, sundowners, and a swimming pool.

    Sarova Whitesands

Sarova Whitesands works well for families because it brings together space, ease, and plenty for children to enjoy once the safari days are complete. With family room options, multiple swimming pools, a kids’ club, and a wide range of beach activities, it gives your family a coast stay that feels relaxed, active, and easy to settle into after the safari.

    Signature

    House of Waine

The same calm Nairobi opening keeps the journey grounded from the start.

    Elewana Kifaru House Lewa

A more elevated north-leg stay with the family cottage, infinity pool, guided walks, bush breakfasts, sundowners, and optional horse or camel riding.

    Angama Mara

A stronger Mara finish with family suites, fully inclusive style, and a more private-feeling Legacy experience. Angama’s family product also emphasizes private vehicle flexibility for family travel.

    Alfajiri Beach Villa

A true family beach villa, not just a hotel room. It accommodates up to six guests, and the villa positioning is clearly family-oriented. The rate structure includes full board, drinks, butler service, nanny support, and activities such as snorkeling access.

    When to travel

Best months: January to March, and June to October.

This route works especially well in windows when safari viewing is strong and the coast still feels easy and warm. Your own Kenya timing guide is still the best place to direct the prospect for the fuller month-by-month decision.

    Frequently asked questions

Signature keeps the route polished and family-fit on a more disciplined cost base. Legacy upgrades the north leg, the Mara finish, and the beach ending, so the whole journey feels more private and more elevated.

Because safari first, beach last gives the family a better emotional rhythm. The coast becomes the recovery chapter after the early mornings and safari movement.

Not if the family wants a fuller Kenya journey. The beach ending helps balance the longer trip by softening the finish.

In Laikipia, families can add walks, pool time, bush breakfasts, horse or camel activities where suitable, and conservation-led guiding. At the coast, children can enjoy beach time, pool time, kids’ activities, and marine options.

Yes. The easiest lever is the coast stay. Signature already keeps the beach finish more cost-conscious than Legacy.
